Free Summer Lunch has returned in Lincoln for youth ages 18 and under.

Lunches are available all summer on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week through August 1st. Meals are served 11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. at two locations - Washington Monroe Elementary or Lincoln Junior High schools.

The no cost, no enrollment healthy meals are provided free to youth. Adults attending with a child can also get lunch for $2.

The program kicked off on June 4th with a cookout featuring hamburgers and hot dogs held at the Lincoln Junior High Baseball Diamond. A large crowd enjoyed plenty of food, fun games, activities and inflatable slides.

“District #27 in partnership with local churches, United Way of Logan County and the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Community Health Collaborative is excited to provide this wonderful opportunity for Lincoln youth this summer. We invite and encourage not only our students, but any children 18 and younger to take advantage of this wonderful program,” said Kent Froebe, District 27 superintendent.

The SFSP takes place throughout the state of Illinois. All children 18 or younger are eligible to participate in any location. To find additional free summer meal sites, individuals can call 1-800-359-2163, text FoodIL to 877877 or visit www.summermealsillinois.org.

Free Summer Meals are part of the Summer Food Service Program sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture and administered by the Illinois State Board of Education.
