Animal magic brings the unusual to life, just like a good book

 

[June 26, 2019]   “Showtime at your library” could not have been a more accurate description of what happened at the Lincoln Public Library on Thursday morning. Amazon John and his traveling menagerie ‘Silly Safaris’ came to the library annex for the summer reading program.

Amazon John had the young audience of readers excited to join him on a trip around the world with his mobile zoo of unusual animals. “These animals are all unique; there is nothing else like them in the world. They are just like the books in your library, every one of them is different and can teach you something new on every page,” said Amazon John, the ringmaster of Silly Safaris.

From tiny tree frogs that can fit in the palm of your hand to a giant snake ten feet long and everything in between, Silly Safaris held the interest of an entire room of kids and parents. And Amazon John knows how to make a presentation.

He pulled every animal out like a magician pulls a rabbit from of a hat, and this animal magician had an explanation of where each one was found on the globe and why each was unique. It was like turning the pages of an illustrated book of unusual animals and having them jump off the page.

The kids lined up after he was done, and got to hold each one. And it was obvious that little ones like to pet great big snakes just as much as soft little bunnies. Curiosity is a wonderful thing in the young readers.
