Xander Bogaerts crushed a
tiebreaking two-run home run in the fifth inning, and Rafael Devers
had three doubles among his four hits as the Boston Red Sox beat the
visiting Chicago White Sox 6-3 on Tuesday.
David Price struck out nine over six innings for the Red Sox, who
will seek a series sweep Wednesday afternoon. Price (5-2) allowed
three runs (two earned) on eight hits and walked none.
Jon Jay had three hits in his second game of the season for the
White Sox, who lost their fourth straight.
Chicago shortstop Tim Anderson exited in the fifth inning with a
sprained right ankle sustained on a running throw to first. X-rays
were negative, and he will be re-evaluated Wednesday, the team
announced.
The game was tied 3-3 before Devers doubled to lead off the fifth.
Bogaerts followed with a towering blast over the Green Monster in
left field, his 15th homer of the season.
Boston added a run on an Eduardo Nunez sacrifice fly in the sixth,
and Brandon Workman pitched around a two-out double in the ninth for
his third save.
After the start of the game was delayed 24 minutes by rain, the
conditions appeared to have an effect on both teams defensively in
the early innings.
The Red Sox scored in the first after an Anderson throwing error on
a Mookie Betts single was followed by a Devers RBI double that left
fielder Eloy Jimenez let drop in front of him.

Chicago tied the score with a run in the second when James McCann
reached second on an error by shortstop Bogaerts, moved to third on
a wild pitch and came home on Jay's single.
The White Sox went up 2-1 when a McCann grounder went under the
glove of Bogaerts for a run-scoring double in the third. Jimenez
added an RBI single for a 3-1 Chicago lead.
The Red Sox tied the game in the bottom of the third on a two-run
single by Christian Vazquez (11-game hitting streak) with the bases
loaded and two outs.
Carson Fulmer got the start for the White Sox in a bullpen game, and
he gave up one unearned run on two hits in two innings. Jose Ruiz
(0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on four hits in two
innings.
