LINCOLN
- Six school counselors rolled in to Lincoln College Monday
afternoon, on a special “Bike O’Fun” tour that combined visits to
colleges with a central Illinois bicycle tour that is taking them
from Bloomington to Jacksonville.

Led by professional school counselors Paul Welsh and
Sarah McDougal from Fenton High School in Bensonville, the group
began their tour Sunday in Bloomington, at Illinois State, then
toured Illinois Wesleyan on Monday morning, before hitting the road
to Lincoln, where they toured Lincoln College, had dinner with
admissions staff and stayed overnight, before setting out for
Springfield on Tuesday morning.
In addition to Welsh and McDougal, riders included Paul Harris of
Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio, Texas; Scott Lilly of
Glenbard East High School in Lombard; Heidi Mignonne of Columbia
College, Chicago; and Merle Wilder of Belleville East High School.
The tour gives the counselors a chance to get familiar with Illinois
colleges over the summer, while also getting a great workout and
enjoying some bicycling through the countryside. Welsh and McDougal
are experienced cyclists and got the idea of an Illinois tour after
regularly touring with a similar group known as the Tour d’Admission,
which tours colleges across the country.
While heading to Lincoln, the group took time to stop in Atlanta to
take in some of the sites at the historic community, including the
Route 66 Arcade Museum and the 19-Foot Tall “Paul Bunyon” hot dog
statue.
