Lincoln College Radio Team is Best in the Nation
Students Nik Jackson and Adam Hoffman Take Top Award in New York

 

[March 08, 2019]  LINCOLN - The radio play-by-play duo of Nik Jackson and Adam Hoffman have been recognized as the best in the nation among college radio broadcasters. The two Lincoln College students took the honor of "Best Men's Basketball Play-by-Play" at the 79th annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Conference on Saturday, March 2, in New York City.

Jackson and Hoffman were present, along with Lincoln College Associate Professor and WLNX General Manager John Malone, to accept the award at a ceremony to honor achievement in collegiate broadcasting at the Hotel Pennsylvania. The duo edged out other finalists in the category from Virginia Commonwealth University, Temple University, University of Tennessee at Martin, Goshen College, and Hillsdale College.

"Nik has been the consistent radio voice of Lincoln College basketball for four consecutive seasons, and he'll be back for a fifth next year," Malone said. "That's a milestone that will be very difficult to top. He has become a top notch play by play broadcaster and will be extremely successful wherever his career takes him. Adam knows basketball inside and out. His insight and on air chemistry with Nik blends together to create a broadcast on par with any professional play-by-play and color commentary duo anywhere in the country. I am thrilled they will both be here for another season together, the first with real NAIA competition."

The national honor follows the duo being named Best Radio Play by Play in Illinois at the Student Silver Dome Awards presented last October by the Illinois Broadcasters Association.

In addition, Jackson and Hoffman were IBS finalists in the categories of "Best Women's Basketball Play-by-Play" and "Best TV Play-by-Play." Jackson was also a finalist for "Best Use of Facebook" and "Best Sports Interview."

Jackson, a senior from Springfield, and Hoffman, a sophomore from Ashland, are both pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Radio, Television, and New Media at Lincoln College. The program launched in 2016 and currently has about 30 declared majors.

The Intercollegiate Broadcasting System is the largest organization in the United States representing non-profit, education-affiliated radio stations and webcasters. Founded in 1940, IBS is headquartered in New York and has a membership of over one thousand college broadcasters, including WLNX.
