[March 15, 2019]    Sporting Kansas City dominated Panamanian club Independiente in a 3-0 home victory on Thursday evening to advance to the CONCACAF Champions League semifinals for the first time in team history.

The last MLS team alive in the event, Sporting KC lost 2-1 in La Chorrera, Panama last week, but got three second-half goals in the rematch to advance 4-2 on aggregate.

In the 74th minute, Krisztian Nemeth hammered home a loose ball in the box after defender Botond Barath got his head to a corner kick. Seven minutes later, a sliding Roger Espinoza finished a chance on the doorstep after a cross from Gerso Fernandes and a selfless layoff from Johnny Russell, who also assisted on the first goal. In the 86th minute, Nemeth added an insurance tally by flicking a pass from Gerso into the far corner.

SKC finished with 27 shots, including 13 on target, to Independiente's five and three, respectively, while enjoying 72.9 percent of the possession.

Sporting KC will face Monterrey of Liga MX in the semifinals in early April. The other semifinal pits Liga MX clubs Santos Laguna and Tigres UANL against each other.

In the meantime, SKC will visit the Colorado Rapids on Sunday and host the Montreal Impact on March 30.
