High School Boys Baseball: Mount Pulaski Hilltoppers open 2019 baseball season with a win at home

[March 20, 2019] 

 The Mount Pulaski Hilltoppers shutout Central A & M 4-0 Monday night at Bob Gasaway Field to open the 2019 baseball season.

Drew Martin was the starting pitcher for Mount Pulaski. Martin pitched two innings, striking out six batters and walking one.

Todd Kelly pitched in middle relief and earned the win. Kelly tossed four shutout innings and struck out seven batters.

Logan DeRight threw one inning in relief for Mount Pulaski and struck out two batters. 

Mount Pulaski scored a run in the first inning on an RBI double by Tanner Farris to jump out to an early 1-0 lead.

The Hilltoppers scored a run in the bottom of the third inning after a leadoff double by Drew Martin to start things off. Martin stole third base and came around to score on a passed ball to make the score 2-0. 

The Hilltoppers added two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. An RBI triple by Martin scored Todd Kelly and a sacrifice fly by DeRight scored Martin to make it a 4-0 ballgame. 

Drew Martin led the Hilltoppers offense with a 2-for-3 day at the plate. 

Mount Pulaski will host Pawnee Thursday at home with the first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
