The first game of the double header saw the
Trojans strike first, scoring two runs in the opening inning of
play and adding three more on a bases-loaded double in the top
of the third. TIU continued to add on runs in the fourth, fifth
and sixth innings to build a 9-0 lead. LC would respond with
three runs in the bottom of the sixth and one in the seventh,
but it would not be enough as Trinity took game one 9-4. LC’s
Kerstin Osborne (Lincoln) took the loss.
Game two got off to a much better start for the Lady Lynx as
they scored two runs in the bottom of the first and exploded for
six in the fourth inning to build an 8-1 advantage. Olivia
Sanders (Clinton) was able to shut down the Trinity offense the
rest of the way to earn the win.
Offensive leaders on the day for LC included a five-for-six
performance by Kerstin Osborne, Melissa Benson (Morris) and
Rodjanne DuPont Barlow (Clinton) each went four-for-seven, and
Petersburg, Illinois native Ali Nowicki went two-for four at the
plate as well.
On Thursday LC (2-12) will travel to play a double-header at
Lindenwood-Belleville University.
