softball opens season with a win

The 2019 Railers opened their softball season on Monday night with
an 8-5 win over Warrensburg-Latham at Schweitzer Field.
Lincoln pushed three runs across the plate in the bottom of the
first inning in support of freshman starting pitcher Abby Glenn.
An RBI single by Emily Paulus scored the first Railer run.
A 2-run RBI double by Jacey Cooper gave Lincoln an early 3-0
advantage over the Cardinals.
Lincoln scored three more times in the third inning. Two runs scored
on passed balls and one run scored on a fielder's choice by Bayleigh
Gillum.
The Railers added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth
inning on an RBI single by MacCailey Metelko and an RBI double by
Sydney Worth.
Lincoln carried an 8-2 lead into the top of the seventh inning. The
Cardinals did score three runs in the top of the seventh inning, but
Glenn was able to end the game on a popup to first base and the
Railers came away with the 8-5 win.

This was the first Varsity start of Abby Glenn's career and a
complete-game win was a great way to start. Lincoln Coach Darrin
Worth has been eagerly anticipating Glenn's arm in the lineup for a
couple years now. After the game Worth was extremely happy
with Glenn's performance as she earned her first career win. "Abby
pitched really well for seven innings. She only gave up one earned
run and she was hitting her spots all night," said Worth. Glenn also
recorded three strikeouts.
The Railers also hit the ball well with Emily Paulus, Sydney Worth
and Bayleigh Gillum each having two hits apiece.
Lincoln will host Williamsville tonight at 4:30 p.m. at Schweitzer
Field. Sydney Worth will be singing the National Anthem prior to the
game and the team will also be recognizing younger softball players
from the area prior to the game. Get there early!
