Mount Pulaski Hilltoppers edge Pawnee 2-1 

[March 23, 2019] 

The Mount Pulaski Hilltoppers defeated Pawnee 2-1 in baseball Thursday night at Bob Gasaway Field.

Pawnee scored a run in the first inning on an RBI double by Jack Kratochvil off starter Logan DeRight to take the lead. 

Mount Pulaski scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on an inside-the-park home run by Drew Martin.

Ian Schneider started the fifth inning by reaching on an error. Schneider advanced to second on a sacrifice by Todd Kelly. Schneider came around to score on Martin's inside-the-park home run that dropped in centerfield.

Mount Pulaski took a 2-1 lead and with DeRight on the mound, the Hilltoppers never allowed another run. DeRight pitched the complete game, giving up six hits and one run. He struck out eleven batters and walked just one in earning the win.

 Drew Martin led Mount Pulaski with two hits, a run and two RBIs.

Ben Fricke had the other hit for Mount Pulaski. 

The Hilltoppers improve to 2-0 on the season.
