Pulaski boys off to a quick 3-0 start

The Mount Pulaski Hilltoppers
defeated Blue Ridge 13-2 on Friday afternoon and improved their
season record to 3-0. The Hilltoppers slugged 12 hits in the win
and got solid pitching performances from Drew Martin and Tanner
Farris. Martin earned the win by pitching three innings and only
allowing one hit and one run. Martin struck out seven batters.
At the plate Martin led the Hilltoppers by going 4-for-5. His
plate appearances included two singles, a double and a home
run.
Mount Pulaski struck first over
Blue Ridge with a run in the first inning on a bases loaded walk
to Tanner Farris. The Hilltoppers scored three runs in the third
inning, with a 2-run homer by Logan DeRight being the big blow.
Grant Davis added an RBI single to make the score 4-0.

In the top of the fourth inning,
Martin's 2-run shot padded the lead. After a 2-run double by
Grant Davis, the Hilltoppers were cruising with an 8-1 lead.
Jonathan Shehorn added an RBI double to make the score 9-1.
The Hilltoppers added four more
runs in the late innings as Martin's bat continued to sizzle and
he added an RBI double to his day. Farris tallied an RBI single
for Mount Pulaski and the other two Hilltopper runs came
courtesy of wild pitches. Mount Pulaski came away easily with
the 13-2 win and have a season opening 3-0 start to their
credit.
Mount Pulaski will play at home
Tuesday versus Illini Central. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
