The
Lincoln Railsplitters softball team traveled to Metamora
on Saturday to take on Olympia and Metamora. In the first game
Olympia edged out Lincoln 12-11 and in the second game Metamora
won 9-6 over the Railsplitters.
Lincoln pounded out 14 hits versus Olympia and led the game 7-5
going into the third inning. In the first inning Lincoln came
away with three runs thanks to an RBI single by Abby Glenn and a
2-run double by Mya Kate Kirgan. Chloe Laubenstein and Sydney
Worth also had singles in the inning and each scored a run
for Lincoln.
In
the second inning Lincoln's bats stayed hot with singles by
Jacey Cooper, Bayleigh Gillum and Laubenstein. Laubenstein drove
in a run just ahead of a 2-run double by Worth. Emily Paulus
followed that up with her own RBI double to give Lincoln the 7-4
lead.
The
Spartans got hot in their half of the third inning and drove in
six runs on seven hits off Lincoln starter Abby Glenn. With the
Spartans in the lead 11-7 Lincoln did not give up.
The
Railsplitters tied the game in the top of the fifth inning.
Kirgan led off the inning with a double to centerfield.
Cooper and Gillum reached base on errors and this allowed a
fielder's choice by Macailey Metelko to score Kirgan with the
first run of the inning. After Laubenstein reached on an error,
Worth drew a bases loaded walk to score a run.

Paulus then slugged a single to score Metelko, but Laubenstein
was out at home trying to score. Sydney Sutherland would come up
to bat and tie the game 11-11 on her RBI single that scored
Worth. Olympia scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to
take the lead.
Lincoln could not get any more runs across in the final two
innings and it was Olympia with the 12-11 victory. Abby Glenn
took the loss for Lincoln. She pitched six innings and gave up
12 runs on 12 hits.
In
game two of the day Metamora took the 9-6 win over Lincoln. The
Railsplitters fell behind early 4-0 to Metamora and despite
seven hits on the day, Lincoln could not catch up.
Chloe Laubenstein stayed hot with a 3-for-4 game and two RBIs.
Sydney Worth was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Jacey Cooper continued
to sizzle at the plate. Cooper was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Lincoln had pulled to within an 8-6 deficit in the top half
of the sixth inning but Metamora came across with an insurance
run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Lincoln was retired quickly in the top of the seventh inning and
Metamore earned the 9-6 win. Zoey Lowe took the loss for the
Railsplitters. Lowe tossed six innings and allowed nine runs on
eight hits. She struck out one batter.
Lincoln will host Normal Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
