The Lincoln Railsplitters boys
baseball team erased a 3-1 deficit to Monticello Tuesday
afternoon at Mike Curry Field and ended up dominating the Sages
11-3.
Lincoln was on the board in the
first inning with an RBI single by Nate Arnold but it wouldn't
take the Sages long to grab the lead off Lincoln starter Justin
Long. Trailing 3-1 going into the bottom of the third, Lincoln
tied the game after a recording a couple singles and taking
advantage of a couple errors by Monticello.
Lincoln took the lead in the
bottom of the fourth inning. After two walks, Dylan Singleton
took third on a wild pitch and then scored on a groundout by
Noah Funk. Drew Singleton added an RBI single in the inning
for the Railsplitters 5-3 lead.

The fifth inning was a success
for Lincoln after a walk to Brenden Eigenbrod and a single by
Alex Bogdanic started things off on the base paths. Will Ewald's
RBI single scored the courtesy runner, Jayden Pollice. Two more
runs came across as Justin Long hit a line drive to left field.
Lincoln's lead was 8-3 at the end of the fifth inning.

Lincoln's Nate Arnold owned the Sages as he
pitched shutout ball in relief, striking out 8 batters and
earning the 11-3 Railsplitters win.
Lincoln scored three more runs
in the bottom of the sixth inning. The big blow being the
2-run double by Eigenbrod. Lincoln's 11-3 lead was intact at the
end of the game thanks to an exceptional pitching performance by
Nate Arnold.

Noah Funk makes a great catch in foul territory
versus Monticello. Lincoln escaped the inning without any further
damage by the Sages.

Nate Arnold awaits Noah Funk's return to the dugout
after Funk's great catch in foul territory.
Arnold earned the win and
pitched in relief of starter Justin Long. Long pitched two and
one-third innings. He allowed four hits, three runs and struck
out two batters. Meanwhile, Arnold was in control on the mound,
tossing four and two-thirds innings of shutout baseball. The
Sages did not record a single hit off Arnold as he fanned eight
batters. The Railsplitters defense did not commit a single
error.
Lincoln will host
Mahomet-Seymour Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
at Mike Curry Field.
