The Lincoln Railsplitters softball team traveled to Morton
Monday night and defeated the Potters 11-10. The ladies from
Lincoln continue to swing the bat well, slugging out 14 hits
against Morton. Lincoln was on the base paths early in the first
inning after back-to-back walks to Chloe Laubenstein and Sydney
Worth started the game. Emily Paulus then singled to load the
bases for Jacey Cooper. Cooper cleared the bags with a double
and just like that Lincoln was on top 3-0. Abby Glenn then
doubled with one out. A walk to Mya Kate Kirgan loaded the bases
again for Lincoln. An RBI single by Macailey Metelko brought run
no. 4 across home plate for the Railsplitters. Laubenstein
followed that up with a 2-run single. The hits and runs just
kept coming as Worth came thru with an RBI single to make the
score 7-0. Paulus was quick to the plate with another single.
Finally, Ryen Stoltzenburg slashed a 2-run single to make it 9-0
before Morton got out of the inning.
The
Potters chipped away at the lead and scored in each of the first
four innings. As the teams headed towards the
fifth inning, Lincoln was up 9-7. The Railsplitters were able to
plate two runs in the fifth inning for a little cushion. Metelko
crushed a double and was sitting at second with two outs when
the Morton pitcher walked both Worth and Paulus.

With the bases loaded Stoltzenburg was clutch with another 2-run
single with two outs. Lincoln's lead was now 11-7.
The
Potters slugged four hits in the bottom of the sixth inning off
starting pitcher Abby Glenn and scored three runs as
a result. Lincoln was hanging on to an 11-10 lead.
Glenn was dominate in the bottom of the seventh inning and was
able to record three quick outs. She fielded a grounder for the
first out and then was able to induce two fly balls to the
outfield for the final outs. Lincoln escapes with the 11-10
win over Morton.
Glenn was the winning pitcher. She allowed 10 runs on 14
hits over seven innings. The freshman also recorded five
strikeouts.
Macailey Metelko was outstanding in the batter's box with a
3-for-4 performance.
Lincoln will host Normal today at 4:30 p.m. at Schweitzer
Field.
