Mount Pulaski defeats Illini Central 15-0

[March 28, 2019]    The Mount Pulaski Hilltoppers crushed Illini Central Tuesday night 15-0 at Veteran's Park in Mount Pulaski.

 

The Hilltoppers scored 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning off Cougars pitching.

 

A two-run single from Tanner Farris ignited the Mount Pulaski offense, after three Mount Pulaski batters had already reached base on walks.

 

Lucas Kuhlman and Todd Kelly added RBI singles to increase the run total.

 

Ben Fricke joined the hit parade with a line drive single to left field that scored two more Hilltopper runs.

 

Logan DeRight and Dawson Combs also scored on wild pitches in the inning.

 

All in all, eight walks were issued in the inning by the Cougars and Mount Pulaski needed just four hits to jump out to an 11-0 lead. 

 

The Hilltoppers added two more runs in the bottom of the second inning. An RBI double by Drew Martin and a run scored on a wild pitch stretched the lead to 13-0.

 

DeRight and Fricke added RBI singles in the bottom of the third inning and the 15-0 score was reached. 

 

Grant Davis earned the win in the shortened affair. Davis tossed four innings of one-hit baseball and struck out five batters. Austin Killion pitched an inning in relief. 

 

Ben Fricke was 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs for Mount Pulaski. 

 

Dylan Aragon got the loss for Illini Central. Adam Hammel had the only hit for the Cougars.
