Local food pantries
including Logan County Food Pantry, Holy Family Food Pantry and
Jefferson Street Christian Church Food Pantry each received a
portion of over 1000 items which were collected at the Logan County
4-H Food Drive held at Lincoln IGA on National 4-H Day of Service
April 27th. Over 20 adult 4-H volunteers, 4-H Alumni, and 4-H
members assisted on the day of the drive at Lincoln IGA with the
collection. In addition, five local 4-H clubs collected food during
their April club meetings to boost the drive including Beason Ag,
Hartem Clovers, Middletown 4-H’ers, The Pioneers, and Topper 4-H.
Jim Hostetter, of Jefferson Street Christian Church Food Pantry,
indicated the donation of food items from the 4-H Food Drive will
boost their efforts to assist approximately 150 families each month
with supplemental groceries. Logan County Food Pantry
representatives also indicated the donated items will benefit
approximately 400 families served by the Logan County Food Pantry
per month.
Partners for the 4-H food drive included Bayer/Monsanto Production
of Illiopolis who donated use of a trailer for the collection of
items and Lincoln IGA who hosted the food drive at their store.
National 4-H Day of Service is an annual event taking place the last
Saturday of April. For further information about 4-H contact the
