The Mount Pulaski
Hilltoppers won a thriller on Wednesday afternoon over
the Havana Ducks. Trailing 6-2 in the bottom of the
seventh inning, the Hilltoppers exploded for five runs
and sent the Ducks waddling back to the river with a 7-6
defeat.
The Hilltoppers were
down 5-0 going into the bottom of the fifth inning when
the Hilltoppers offense finally woke up. Logan DeRight
smashed a two-run single to left field to score the
first Hilltopper runs.
In the top of the
seventh inning the Ducks added a run to make the score
6-2.
The bottom
of the seventh inning began with a lead-off walk to
DeRight. Ben Fricke followed up with a single. Tanner
Farris then hit a line drive to right field to score
DeRight. After one out, Garrett Fitzpatrick came up and
he slugged a two-run single that scored Fricke and
Farris to make the score 6-5.
Lucas Kuhlman then
reached on an error and following a strikeout of
Jonathan Shehorn, Todd Kelly stepped to the plate with
two outs. Kelly ripped a line drive to right field on a
2-1 count and Fitzpatrick and Kuhlman came racing home
with the tying and winning runs, respectively.
