 While some might have been made anxious by such high
profile law enforcement presence, for Mrs. Fricke’s eighth grade
STEM students it was all positive excitement. The FBI shared that
the students had won a contest in March.
The students had each taken a cyber safety quiz on the FBI website.
They were scored based on time invested in the quiz as well as
correct answers. The class had the best score, and on Friday they
were recognized by the FBI with an award.
On hand to present the award was Public Affairs Specialist W. Brad
Ware and Assistant Special Agent in Charge Timothy A. Ferguson,
Springfield Division. Both FBI representatives said that the
students’ scores were impressive and the agents were pleased to be
able to offer the award to the STEM class.

They were also pleased that the students are well informed on how
to protect themselves from predators on the internet.
The award was given out during an all-school assembly Friday
morning. The class and their teacher were the focal point of the assembly and
were excited to be in the presence of the FBI. Mount Pulaski Mayor Matt Bobell
was also on hand and very happy to see that the local youth are well informed.
The FBI offers an internet safety website. There you will find
age appropriate games and quizzes to help educate children on internet use. This
is also the same location where teachers can enter for their students to
participate and possibly also win special recognition from the FBI.
