[May 18, 2019]  LINCOLN - On Friday, fifth and sixth grade students from Lincoln schools enjoyed a day of play as a reward for work completed in the Lincoln D.A.R.E. program at school.

Approximately 350 students attended this year's D.A.R.E. graduation pizza party at the Lincoln Park District Recreational Center where they consumed more than 100 pizzas.

The day included the pizza of course, but also fun and games on the indoor tennis courts. Students also had the opportunity to sing karaoke and or dance, play volleyball or basketball, or just hang out in groups with their friends.

Students complete a two-week Monday through Friday classroom period with the D.A.R.E instructors learning about living a substance-free life and also the program touches on other safety issues.

In addition to talking about the harms of drugs, alcohol and tobacco, the program is also expanding to discuss the practice of vaping or 'juling.'

Each year the Lincoln D.A.R.E. program hosts a golf outing fundraiser to gather funds to sponsor events such as this, the money also helps with learning materials and incentives for the kids. The 2019 D.A.R.E. golf outing will be held on June 14th at the Lincoln Elks.
