Obituary
Phyllis D. Hrehovcsik, 92, of
Oceanside, California, formerly of Lincoln, passed
away Thursday, May 16, 2019.
She was born July 6, 1926 to Ermer and Belle Young
of Shelbyville, Illinois as the tenth of eleven
children. She was the last of her immediate family
as her seven brothers and three sisters and their
spouses preceded her in death.
Phyllis attended Illinois State (Normal) University
where she met her future husband, George Hrehovcsik.
They moved to Lincoln where George taught math and
science at Lincoln Community High School from
1947-1968. They moved to Denver, Colorado for the
next twenty years where she worked beside her
husband in the insurance business.
Her husband, George, preceded her in death in 1993
as did her beloved son-in-law, Mike Abbott in 2006.
She is survived by her four children: JoDee (Lou)
Costello, Bobbi Abbott, Greg (Judy) Hrehovcsik, and
Wendi Hrehovcsik. She is also survived by ten
grandsons and four great-grandchildren.
Phyllis loved traveling and, following the loss of
her husband, she divided her time living near family
and friends in Illinois, Arizona, California, and
Colorado. Over her lifetime, she took active roles
in various school, church, and civic organizations.
She loved most games and sports, especially golf and
the Denver Broncos. She enjoyed playing Scrabble,
cards, and dominoes, keeping family scrapbooks, and
making pancakes for her grandsons.
No formal service will be held. A family gathering
will take place at a later date. As requested, her
ashes will join her husband’s, floating peacefully
in the Gunnison River that runs through JoDee and
Lou Costello’s property in Colorado. |
