Art instructor Lisa Durbin brought her students
and their art for a public showing with examples of drawing,
painting, ceramics, and sculpture. The Lincoln Art Institute has
been hosting the show for the past four years.
“Having the students able to display their art in a gallery setting
for public viewing is a wonderful opportunity for them. Pam
Moriearty of Logan County Arts reached out to me about having the
exhibit,” said Lisa Durbin. “Students were really excited to be able
to visit the gallery and see their work on display, they really made
it happen,” she said.
A large crowd of art lovers was enhanced by proud parents of those
students whose art was on display.
“This was the easiest year to present the student art show since we
began doing this several years ago. Lisa’s total involvement in the
process was instrumental,” said Moses Pinkerton, owner of the
Lincoln Art Institute. “I really appreciate that Lincoln High is
still emphasizing fine arts. It’s important to teach creativity not
only so that students can create art, but so they can appreciate
it,” he said.
“It’s terrific that LCHS has such an enthusiastic
head of the fine arts program,” said retired LCHS fine arts director
Cheryl Spove.

Many of the patrons of the arts who visited the Lincoln Art
Institute Thursday evening were so taken by the quality of the items
on display that they made offers to purchase many of them. “That is
a terrific affirmation of the student’s talent,” said a beaming
Durbin.
The “Young Artists Show” will be on display at the Lincoln Art
Institute during the remainder of May. Stop by for a visit. If Moses
is around he will open the doors or for a personal visit call
217-651-8355 to arrange a specific time for a viewing.
