LINCOLN
- On Friday morning, the law enforcement presence at Dunkin Donuts
in Lincoln was getting plenty of attention as visitors to the
popular stop located right off the interstate opened their hearts
and their wallets for Special Olympics.

With a number of various ‘cops’ on the roof of the
donut shop waving to drivers as they passed by, and a large presence
of officers and their families on the ground handing out coupons and
mugs in exchange for donations, the fundraiser was raking in the
cash.
According to Special Olympics Facility Coordinator at
Logan Correctional Center, Lieutenant Stephen Kretschmer, it had
been a very productive morning with a lot of folks dropping in
donations as they approached the drive-up window or entered through
the front door of the shop.
The group had a tent set up right outside the front
door of the building with large cans for donations. Every donation
earned the patron a free regular donut when they walked inside the
store.
Just ahead of the drive-in window, more volunteers
stood greeting patrons of the drive-thru. Again, a dollar in the can
got the donor a 99-cent regular donut courtesy of Dunkin.
For those who gave a minimum of $10, a Law
Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics travel mug and a coupon
for a free coffee inside was the thank you gift for such generosity.

The tent also offered walk-in customers an
opportunity to purchase Torch Run tee-shirts.
While Kretschmer was on the ground doing a heck of a
job soliciting donations, his counterpart from Lincoln Correctional,
Monica Slater, was on the roof along with other officers from the
Lincoln and Logan Correctional Centers, Lincoln Police Department
and the Logan County Sheriff’s office.
The money raised will go toward assisting with the
costs incurred in the many Special Olympics games and tournaments
held throughout this region.
All together on Friday there were 315 Dunkin Donuts across the state
who hosted Cops on a Rooftop with a goal of gaining more than the
2018 fundraising record of $871,000.
