[May 22, 2019]  LINCOLN - The Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Foundation and Heartland Community College will hold an event later this month for students who want to learn more about becoming a certified nursing assistant (CNA).

The event will provide students with more information about the college’s CNA certification program, which will be offered at the Lincoln Center for the first time this fall.

The event will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at Heartland Lincoln Center, 2201 Woodlawn Road, Lincoln. Representatives from Heartland will be available to answer questions about the program, including educational requirements and registration. A representative with the hospital foundation will be on hand to discuss educational grant opportunities.

The Heartland CNA program is a 16-week course, which includes eight weeks of clinical work.

“We’re elated that the hospital foundation is partnering with us to help more students pursue a career in health care,” said Kristi Powell, associate director of Heartland Lincoln Center. “This is a true benefit to the community. We hope to see anyone interested in learning more about the CNA program on May 23.”

The nonprofit hospital’s foundation is expanding its Healthcare Career Educational Grant program to include educational grants to students seeking CNA certification. Applicants must be accepted into an accredited institution prior to applying for a grant.

Applicants are expected to make a one-year work commitment to Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital for each award. The deadline to apply is Friday, June 21. To apply, visit ALMH.org/Foundation.

“Since 2013, our foundation has awarded more than $375,000 to students to help them pursue a career in healthcare,” Sarah Helm, executive director of the ALMH Foundation. “This investment in education wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of our donors.”

Heartland’s Lincoln Center CNA class will begin in August. Registration is now open for all fall semester Heartland classes.
