Railsplitters sweep Taylorville on Senior Night

The Lincoln Railsplitters Softball Team
swept Taylorville in a doubleheader last week by final scores of
7-6 and 7-4.
Sandwiched in the middle of the
games was Senior Night with the team recognizing their only
senior, Zoey Lowe.
Game one of the doubleheaders ended in
a walk-off win for the Railsplitters.
Trailing 6-5 heading into the
bottom of the seventh inning, Lincoln started the rally off on a
walk to Abby Glenn. Following two quick outs, Bayleigh Gillum
put the ball in play and reached on an error by the shortstop.
Courtesy runner Reagan MacConnell raced home with the tying run.
Macailey Metelko then singled on a line drive to center that
scored Gillum with the winning run. Lincoln takes game one in
exciting fashion, 7-6 the final.
Abby Glenn earned the win for
Lincoln. Glenn tossed seven innings, giving up two earned runs
on ten hits. She struck out six batters and walked one.
Sydney Worth, Emily Paulus and
Macailey Metelko each had two hits to lead the Lincoln offense.
Game two belonged to Lincoln
early on. Chloe Laubenstein broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the
second inning with a three-run shot over the left field fence
that scored Bayleigh Gillum and Macailey Metelko.

Zoey
Lowe was honored on Senior Night for the Lady Railsplitters. Lowe is
the daughter of Tabatha Blair and Justin Crowell.
Emily Paulus added a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth
inning that stretched the Lincoln lead to 7-3.
Taylorville added a run in the
sixth inning.
Abby Glenn escaped damage in the
seventh inning after back-to-back singles by the Tornadoes. The
Railsplitters defense turned a double play and Glenn then ended
the game by inducing a fly ball for the final out. Lincoln gets
the sweep and takes game two by a final score of 7-4.
Abby Glenn got the win for
Lincoln. Glenn went the distance again, giving up three earned
runs on 12 hits. She struck out one batter.
Chloe Laubenstein led the
Lincoln offense with a 2-for-3 performance in game two. She
drove in three runs and scored three runs. Her home run was the
big hit of the game.
