[November 19, 2019]  The 2019-20 Lady Railers were introduced to fans last Thursday night. Following introductions the ladies scrimmaged against one another on Neil Alexander Court.

Head Coach Taylor Rohrer gave a speech following the scrimmage in which she emphasized to the parents, “You guys have raised some really great young women, so you should be proud of that. They have been working really hard everyday. I am excited about this year. I am pumped. This is a great group. This is fun. This is what we want, this kind of positive atmosphere. I couldn’t ask for anything more.

"To me, being a part of Lincoln basketball is to be a part of something bigger than ourselves, it’s to be a part of a team. I am the type of coach that really believes in the team concept. I don’t think that just one kid can win a game for us. I think it takes all 15 or all 20. What happens in our gym here is we have a starting five and they are the ones that will get recognition when their names get called, but the truth of the matter is the girls who are behind the scenes, you know the next five or the five after that, those are the girls that are pushing those first five and they deserve as much recognition as that first group. We could not do what we do without everyone. It takes the whole team.”

Rohrer also touched on beginning the season with not just team goals but individual goals as well. She has plans to work individually with players in the morning hours who want to work on skills. “No x’s and o’s, just how can we improve you as an individual,” she stated.

Rohrer continued her speech by saying this is a very disciplined and coachable group of student-athletes. She also emphasized the importance of team moments and believing in the system. Positivity is high on her list of expectations for the season as well as her players being committed to the team. She highlighted things she expects like, “Work together and respect each other.”

“These next couple of things are probably the biggest for me. Exhibit class in everything you do, whether you are here or you are out on the town, you represent more than just yourself. You represent your families, your school, and Lincoln Lady Railer Basketball and this town knows who you are. You represent all those things so the decisions you make reflect on every aspect of your life. Make good ones. Be smart about the decisions you are making. Be somebody that those middle school and elementary kids want to become. When they look at you, they think, “I want to be that player. I want to be that girl.” That’s what we want to do here. We want to be somebody that those little kids look up to.”

“This next thing is also big for me. You are a student first and an athlete second. If you are struggling in a class, go get help. Don’t sit on it. Go get help. Figure out how to be successful in the classroom because that is what is going to get you to the next level. This game is great but only a handful of kids get to go on and play it. For everyone else, it’s going to be the education you get in the building that’s going to send you on to college, or it’s going to be the education you get out in our trades program that’s going to lead you to your next step. Your education comes before anything in this gym.”

Rohrer also emphasized her door is always open if students need to talk with her, about anything, not just basketball.

Rohrer concluded her talk by going over a few team rules and reminded everyone of the big breakfast fundraiser the Lady Railers host in January.
