Controversial issues:
As a
community we need to be able to talk openly about
matters that affect the quality of our lives. The
most effective and least offensive manner to get
your point across is to stick to the issue
and refrain from commenting on another person's
opinion. Letters that deviate from focusing on the
issue may be rejected or edited and marked as such.

Dear Members/Community
The Lincoln Park District has been serving the community of Lincoln
and surrounding area since 1961.
We have been able to maintain and grow to what we are today because
of community support, dedicated membership and fiscal
responsibility. The Lincoln Park District goal is to continue to
offer the best recreational opportunities to our members and the
community for years to come.
Recently the Illinois State Legislature passed the $15 An Hour
Minimum Wage Act, which took effect July 1st, 2019. The law states
that full time and part-time employees (18 and older) will be
guaranteed gradual salary increases for the next 5 and a half years
which will end in 2025 at $15 per hour. This legislation is going to
affect many small businesses, including the Park District, which has
over 35 part time/seasonal employees.
The bottom line is that we will need revenue to
cover the additional cost brought on by this recent legislation. We
have been put in a situation without many options.
[to top of second column in this letter] |
Just to give you an idea, this means an additional
$8,000 a year, every year until 2025, which will add $40,000 to our
payroll. This is a substantial amount that the Park District must
come up with.
Other than being open fewer hours, cutting programs or laying people
off, the board of commissioners wants you to know that the Park
District will be implementing our new fee structure taking effect
November 1st, 2019. Please keep in mind that the Park District has
not had any price increase for the last six years. With the new fee
adjustment, this will help cover additional salary costs and we will
continue to offer the same quality service that our members,
community and surrounding areas are accustom to.
Once again, thank you everyone for your continued support of the
Lincoln Park District.
Lincoln Park District
Board of Commissioners [Posted
