Brock Nelson, playing in his
500th career game, scored with 43.5 seconds left in overtime
Thursday night as the red-hot New York Islanders beat the Pittsburgh
Penguins 4-3 in Brooklyn, N.Y., and set a franchise record for
points in consecutive games at 16.
The Islanders have gone 15-0-1 in a span that began Oct. 12 to break
the previous franchise-best points streak set in 1978-79 and matched
in 1980-81 and 1981-82, the last of which featured 15 straight wins.
New York's only blemish in its current streak was an overtime loss
to the Penguins on Nov. 7, also in Brooklyn, in which it blew a
three-goal, third-period lead.
The Islanders' point streak is the longest in the NHL since the
Tampa Bay Lightning also went 15-0-1 in 16 straight games from Nov.
29, 2018 through Jan. 3, 2019. The last team to record points in at
least 17 straight games was the Boston Bruins with 19 games last
season.
Nelson also gave Islanders the lead with 4:52 left in the third, but
Patric Hornqvist scored with 29.9 seconds remaining to force
overtime.
Panthers 5, Ducks 4 (OT)
Defenseman Aaron Ekblad scored 22 seconds into overtime for his
second goal of the game as Florida rallied from a four-score deficit
to defeat Anaheim at Sunrise, Fla.
Sergei Bobrovsky made 28 saves to earn the win. Panthers winger
Brett Connolly scored two goals in a span of 27 seconds in the
second period, starting Florida's comeback. Ekblad scored with 8:05
left in the third, and Dominic Toninato tied it 4-4 with 4:23
remaining.
Max Jones, Nick Ritchie, Rickard Rakell and Ondrej Kase scored for
the Ducks, who led 4-0 late in the second period. John Gibson made
23 saves for Anaheim, but he couldn't stop the Panthers in the final
22 minutes.
Blues 5, Flames 0
Jordan Binnington stopped 40 shots for his first shutout of the
season and the sixth of his career as host St. Louis blanked
Calgary.
Zach Sanford had a career-high four points with a goal and three
assists. Oskar Sundqvist scored twice for the Blues, and David
Perron and Vince Dunn also scored. David Rittich made 26 saves for
the Flames.
The Blues are 9-1-2 in their last 12 games. They have suffered just
four regulation losses in 23 games. The Flames' winless streak
reached six games (0-5-1). They are 4-9-1 on the road this season.
Stars 5, Jets 3
Jamie Benn scored for the third consecutive game, breaking a tie
with 4:21 remaining, as host Dallas defeated Winnipeg. Benn's goal
came 25 seconds after Winnipeg's Luca Sbisa scored to tie it at 3-3
as the Jets overcame a three-goal deficit.
Tyler Seguin added an empty-netter to cap the scoring with 34.8
seconds left. Mattias Janmark, Jason Dickinson and Radek Faksa also
scored for Dallas, which won its season-high fifth consecutive game
and extended its points streak to 10 games (9-0-1). Corey Perry had
three assists, and goaltender Ben Bishop made 23 saves.
Kyle Connor and Patrik Laine also scored for the Jets, who were
trying to sweep their four-game trip. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 31
of 35 shots for the Jets, who were 7-1-1 in their previous nine
games.
Bruins 3, Sabres 2
Brad Marchand tallied twice, David Pastrnak scored his 20th goal and
Boston edged visiting Buffalo.
Tuukka Rask stopped a season-high 36 shots, including a
highlight-reel save in the third period, as the Bruins won for the
third time in their last four games. Patrice Bergeron also earned a
helper in his return to the lineup after missing two games with a
lower-body injury.
Rasmus Ristolainen and Brandon Montour scored for the Sabres, who
have lost nine of their last 10 (1-7-2). Linus Ullmark stopped 24
shots.
Lightning 4, Blackhawks 2
Anthony Cirelli, Brayden Point and Cedric Paquette scored
third-period goals, and Tampa Bay held on for a win over host
Chicago.
Mikhail Sergachev also scored for Tampa Bay, which snapped a
two-game skid.
Brent Seabrook and Dylan Strome scored for the Blackhawks. Chicago
has lost back-to-back games after winning the previous four in a
row.
Kings 5, Oilers 1
Los Angeles defused powerful Edmonton with a scoring flurry of its
own and turned a fast start into a victory, extending its home
winning streak to five games.
First-period goals from Tyler Toffoli, Anze Kopitar and Jeff Carter,
along with three assists for the game from Drew Doughty, helped keep
the Kings undefeated at home in the month of November. Despite all
of the local success, the Kings are still in last place in the
Western Conference.

Logan Couture scored the overtime game-winner, and goaltender Aaron
Dell provided a scintillating performance to backstop San Jose to a
win in Las Vegas.
Dell, the Sharks' backup goalie, made 37 saves -- including four in
overtime -- to earn his squad its seventh win in eight games. Timo
Meier scored for San Jose in the second period.
Brayden McNabb tied the game for Vegas just before the midway point
of the third. Marc-Andre Fleury made 27 saves for the Golden

Calle Jarnkrok had a goal and an assist for the Predators, who
outshot the visitors 48-23 but went 1-for-6 on the power play.
Nashville netminder Pekka Rinne entered with a 6.72 goals-against
average during a three-game losing streak, and he was pulled after
allowing five goals on 17 shots through two periods.
Maple Leafs 3, Coyotes 1
Tyson Barrie, Pierre Engvall and Auston Matthews scored goals as
Toronto, playing its first game under coach Sheldon Keefe, defeated
Arizona in Glendale, Ariz., to end a six-game losing streak.
It was the first game as an NHL coach for Keefe, who was promoted
from the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies Wednesday after
Mike Babcock was fired. Toronto goaltender Frederik Andersen made 30
