The Lincoln Railers opened their season at home Monday night
by taking on Cahokia in the 2019 Lincoln/Eaton Thanksgiving
Tournament.
Coach Neil Alexander showed fans a starting lineup similar to last
season with Kaden Froebe, Kameron Whiteman, Will Ewald and Dylan
Singleton getting announced as starters. Landon Hullinger joined the
group and jumped center for Lincoln. Lincoln won the tip but
committed a turnover right away and Cahokia took advantage by
scoring the first points of the game.
The Railers were quick to retaliate and tossed in 17 straight points
to take a 17-2 lead.
Ten of those first quarter points came courtesy of Kaden Froebe, who
would finish the night with 24 points in just over 20 minutes on the
court.
Lincoln would end the first quarter with a 19-5 lead.
The second quarter was just as fast-paced as the first, with the
Railers tough defense forcing turnovers and getting steals left and
right. On offense the Railers moved the ball unselfishly at speeds
as fast as lightening.
Kameron Whiteman’s quick pass from the lane out to Froebe deep in
the corner for a three extended the Lincoln lead to 23-7 at the 6:04
mark.
Brody Whiteman came off the bench for Lincoln to hit a soft short
jumper over his Cahokia defender and as the ball passed through
nothing but net the Railers lead grew to 25-8.
Will Ewald connected for a three shortly thereafter to give the
Railers their biggest lead at this point, 28-8 now the score. A
couple more baskets by Froebe and Ewald in the quarter gave Lincoln
a comfortable 33-10 lead at halftime.
The Railers were quick out of the break at halftime and immediately
put up nine unanswered points. Dylan Singleton was responsible for
five of those points.
The Cahokia starters just couldn’t get anything going against the
Railers and a 50-15 hole was dug after Singleton left his man in
blue standing and went baseline on him for two more points. The
Railers were just flat out faster than Cahokia.

Seth Tungate would finish the third quarter scoring for Lincoln with
a nice drive in the lane and draw the foul. His free throw put
Lincoln up 53-15 and as the third quarter ended, the starters for
Lincoln would all take a final seat on the bench.
The fourth quarter turned out to be the quickest of them all with a
running clock to speed things up. Coach Alexander subbed his bench
players in and out the entire quarter and while the Railers were
outscored 15-0 by Cahokia in the final quarter, Lincoln still
cruised to a 53-30 win.
Froebe led all scorers with 24 points and led Lincoln with 6
rebounds.
In the earlier game, Springfield defeated Belleville Althoff 74-63.
Shane Miller led Springfield with 30 points. Bennie Slater and Kobe
Slater each had 19 points for the Senators.
Daulton Burgner led Belleville Althoff with 26 points and Jack
Bruening tossed in 10 points.
