The annual event is part of Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital's
mission to actively promote healthy lifestyles in our community.
Shorter children's runs were held first, with a 200-yard kids dash
for 10 and under, and free chip-timed one-mile run for youth ages
6-13. Then a combined 5K and 10K launched.
It's Race Time supplied chipped, certified timing. John with Race
Time (in the blue) arrived at the park well before it was even light
out to set up the tent, which would be needed this day, and the
timing equipment. He also would be the last to go home due to
packing.

As walkers and runners stepped up to the start line it began to
sprinkle. Shortly after the race began it was a steady light to
medium rain. With warm air temps, it didn't seem to phase anyone and
was somewhat welcomed, especially as the heated participants
completed their race.
Cheers went up as the last of the 5K and 10K participants came over
the finish line near together.
And then it was special high-five's and soggy handshakes for the
happy finishers.
Randy Schrader of Lincoln began running a year ago for the health
benefits. He works out through a program offered at work. Randy and
his son Noah of Zion both ran the 10K. Randy took second in is age
group, and Noah took first in is age group.
Todd Mourning of ALMH Rehabilitation, assisted by wife Linda and
other ALMH volunteers, coordinated the awards.
Awards were given to the top placers by age categories, and divided
male and female, as well as overall male and female.
In the 5K
- The Overall female was Becca Heitzig (13 years old) at 20:43.2 and
in second was Hattie Mourning (14 years old) at 25:06.5, both of
Lincoln.
- The Overall male went to Alex Stuber of Tremont with a time of
22:43.5. Taking second was Seth Goodman of Lincoln at 23:02.6
In the 10K
- The Overall female was Kayla Swaar from Mason City at 46:19.5.
Second place was won by Brianne Levek of Collinsville with 48:23.7.
- Overall male was Jackson Johnson of Lincoln at 45:15.1. Second was
taken by another Lincolnite, Colby Leith coming in at 8 min. 19 sec.
As the rain increased in intensity winners dashed up to receive
their awards and then back to a sheltering refreshment tent.
All any one needed was a bar of soap for their post-race shower, but
none could be found. The day was still deemed a huge success with
lots of smiles going around.
