FFA members evaluated soil for different characteristics such as
soil color, drainage, permeability, texture, structure, and depth.
Students also calculated slope and determined how the soil should
best be used in a conservation program.

Senior, Cavit Schempp said, “Soils judging is a lot of fun and you
get out of school for the day. My favorite part is calculating
slope. I highly recommend this CDE to any FFA member.” Junior,
Rebekah Magee stated, “The Land Use CDE was an amazing experience. I
learned a lot about how to calculate different characteristics of
soil. l was also able to tell what organic matter was in the soil.”
