Lincoln fell behind early in set one and was
not able to regroup in time to avoid a 25-19 opening set loss.
Set two began in a similar way to the first set, due to poor
passing off of serve receive by LC and several defensive miscues
which led to a 17-10 Blackburn lead. However, a kill by senior
Kaylyn Hoffert (Lincoln) led to Hoffert serving five points
in-a-row cut the lead to 17-16. LC would keep the score close
the rest of the way, but could not regain the lead and
eventually dropped the set 25-23.
The Lady Lynx rallied in set three to play with more intensity
on defense and were able to find their rhythm on offense as
well. Libero Megan Gilliam’s (Waterloo) nine-point run of serves
helped Lincoln grab the momentum midway through the set which
resulted in a convincing 25-14 win for LC.
Unfortunately for the Lady Lynx, they got off to another poor
start in set four to fall behind 5-0. Blackburn was eventually
able to open up a ten-point lead at 17-7 and took the set 25-18
to end the match.
“Blackburn played a very aggressive and fundamentally sound
match tonight,” said LC Head Coach Mark Tippett. “They kept us
off balance most of the night and deserved the win.”
Lincoln College (16-8) was led in kills by Mikayla Seibert
(Mackinaw) with 12. Setters Emma Derry (Augusta) and Morgan
Lolling (Lincoln) each had 19 set assists and Megan Gilliam
collected a team-high 13 digs.
