The Lincoln College Women’s Volleyball team
went 3-0 over the weekend without dropping a set at the
Association of Independent Institutions (AII) second crossover
event of the year. The event was co-hosted by Lincoln College
and Lincoln Christian University on Friday and Saturday.
Lincoln’s first match of the weekend was against Fisk University
(TN). Fisk battled the Lady Lynx hard in all three sets, but a
balanced offensive attack and consistent play on defense kept LC
in front for most of the match. LC took set one 25-21 and, in
set two, got a seven-point run of serves from libero Megan
Gilliam (Waterloo) on their way to a 25-19 victory. Set three
was closely contested from start to finish, but, in the end, the
Lady Lynx held off Fisk for an intense 25-23 win. Match point
was recoded after a long rally which ended on a kill by junior
middle hitter Kayla Battle (Aurora).
On Saturday, Lincoln got off to a very slow start against Cottey
College (MO), but was able to scratch and claw their way to a
26-24 set one win. In set two, LC made several errors early on
which led to a nine point deficit
