The Lincoln College women’s volleyball team finished the weekend
with a much-needed victory after dropping three close matches at the
St. Louis College of Pharmacy Invite.
Lincoln began the event with a tough four-set loss to the College of
the Ozarks (MO) by scores of 29-27, 25-16, 30-32, 25-19 then played
right away against the host school. In that match, STLCOP got off to
a fast start and took the first set 25-12 and the second 25-17. In
set three, LC regrouped and found the energy to battle their way
through a marathon set that went all the way up to a 38-38 tie
score. Unfortunately, the last two points did not fall their way and
the College of Pharmacy ended up with the 40-38 win to end the
match.
On day two of the event, Lincoln faced Freed-Hardeman University
(TN) in their morning match and again got off to a poor start,
dropping the first set 25-12. LC regrouped and played better in set
two, but came up just short again losing it 25-23. The Lady Lynx
broke through for a close 28-26 win in set three, but could not
complete the comeback in set four, dropping it 25-18.

LC’s final match of the weekend matched them up against Stephens
College (MO). Lincoln was able to control the temp of play for most
of the match and won it in straight sets by scores of 25-17, 25-19,
25-19. The win was highlighted by a team-high seven service aces
from outside hitter Ashlyn Slater (Grain Valley, MO).
LC Head Coach Mark Tippett took more positives than negatives from
the results of the weekend. “We had some very rough patches in terms
of serve receive passing and defensive intensity this weekend which
caused us to fall behind early in a few sets,” said Tippett. “We did
find ways to battle back and lost a few very close and exciting
sets, especially the one that went to 40 points. Our players never
gave up and despite coming away with three losses, I was proud of
their effort.”
