You know summer in Lincoln is gone
when this happens

Where did the summer go? One sure sign that the seasons are changing
is the now empty pool at the Lincoln Park District. All summer the
deck chairs, kiddie pool, and water slide were filled with folks
taking in the sun, getting in some laps, and enjoying water
aerobics, and the friendships that developed. People came from as
far away as Mason City to take part in the summer ritual of hanging
out at the pool.
College and Lincoln High students got their first jobs as life
guards at the pool. Some have become familiar with the swimmers as
they have been guards for several years. Some of the lap swimmers
came every day.
A week ago the water
was being churned up by lap swimmers, some of whom came every day.
The sprays from the
figures in the kiddie pool will be back for sure, just have to get
through another central Illinois winter.

Now we know that
summer is really over. The ever popular pool facility at the Lincoln
Park District is empty, no water and no happy pool people on the
deck soaking up the sun. Lap swimmers and water aerobics are just a
happy memory. No more excited shouts from kids as they rocket
down the water slide. Oh, where did the summer go?!
The pool will get some needed
maintenance such as a new coat of paint. It was emptied just after
Labor Day so work could start on the roof replacement of the
administration building. It was a precaution so that debris from the
roof work would not get into the pool filters.
Now we can look forward to next summer when another season changes
and the beautiful Lincoln Park District pool opens.
