Faith Assembly first free fish fry fabulously fun for all

[September 09, 2019]   LINCOLN - Saturday, September 7, on a beautiful late summer day, Faith Assembly held a fish fry with fun, food and fellowship for people of all ages.

Pastor Darren Palmer said from the time the event had started, there was a steady flow of people. He said we love Lincoln and wanted to do something to bless our community.



When planning the event, the men’s group decided to have a fish fry. Donnie Johns of Nebo, Illinois caught, donated and helped fry the buffalo fish and catfish. Palmer said church members donated the sides that include curly fries, baked beans, potato salad and a variety of desserts.

People filled the tables set up outside under a tent and inside the fellowship hall.

Nancy Wrage said the fish and fries were wonderful.

Besides the food, there were bouncy houses, games, musical entertainment, arrowhead making, and a raffle for door prizes.

As three-year-old Clara finished her meal, she was excited about jumping in the bouncy castle.



Kids raced through the obstacle course on one bouncy house trying to be the first one down the slide.



In another area was a display of plastic castings of arrowheads from around the state of Illinois.



Paul Schilkolski said these castings were copies of authentic arrowheads in the Illinois State Museum.

Jed Snider patiently showed children how to make arrowheads from soft copper using a flaking tool and deer antler to whittle them.

Fourteen-year-old Adiana said it was a fun activity for her because it was a new learning experience.



Working slowly and carefully, her eleven-year-old brother Tyee made an authentic looking arrowhead. Snider told Tyee his was probably the most authentic looking one of the day and Tyee displayed it with pride.



Musical entertainment was provided by singer and songwriter Robert Beam and his wife Ty. Palmer said they are part of the worship team at Faith Assembly and a huge blessing to the church.



Linda Wilson said she hoped this event was the first of many. Wilson said, “We have had a wonder crowd on a beautiful day.” Wilson was helping at the registration table, where people could register to win a $100 Walmart gift card, a smoker and a cooler.

Palmer said he would estimate that over 100 families attended the event and enjoyed the fun and fellowship on a gorgeous Saturday.
