Obituary
Gerald Wayne Nixon, 72, passed away
at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at
Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Gerald was born on February 2, 1947 in Hutchinson,
KS; son of Leon and Justina (Kroeker) Nixon. He
married Melissa Potts on September 18, 1971 in St.
Francisville. She survives him.
Also surviving Gerald are his daughters: Amy and
Megan Nixon both of Mount Pulaski; three
grandchildren: Madison, Grace, and Meridith; one
brother: Phillip (Carrie) Nixon of Tolono; one
sister-in-law: Charlene Nixon of Nashville, TN. He
was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter:
Meredith, and one brother: Frederick.

Gerald retired from the Army National
Guard, where he spent over 20 years as an E7 and
taught at Bureau Valley High School. Gerald was a
member of the First United Methodist Church in
Decatur and Mount Pulaski American Legion Post #447.
A graveside service for Gerald will be held at
1:00pm on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at Camp Butler
National Cemetery in Springfield, where full
military rites will be preformed by The Mount
Pulaski American Legion Post #447. Visitation will
take place from 10:00 a.m. -12:00 noon on Tuesday,
September 10, 2019 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski.
