to Host Free Seminar on Lung Disease

Memorial Medical Center will host a free seminar on lung disease at 6
p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, in the Memorial Center for Learning and
Innovation, 228 W. Miller St.

The 90-minute event, “My Lifestyle with Lung Disease,” will be in
the M.G. Nelson Family Auditorium on the first floor.
Participants will learn about lung disease, chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease (or COPD) and emphysema, pulmonary fibrosis and
asthma. The goal is to help participants improve their understanding
of lung disease and the benefits of oxygen and other therapies.
Guest speakers are Dr. M. Haitham Bakir, medical director of
Memorial Medical Center’s pulmonary rehabilitation program and a
pulmonologist with SIU Medicine, and Lori Valentine, a registered
nurse and a registered respiratory therapist who is the director of
Memorial Home Medical Equipment and Supplies.

After their presentations, the seminar will conclude with a half-hour
question-and-answer session with an expert panel.
Participants can arrive early at 5:30 p.m. to visit displays and speak with
medical professionals.
Free parking is available in the parking garage south of the MCLI at Rutledge
and Carpenter streets. Light refreshments will be served.
