Lead by Drum Major, Claire Hill, the band performed a
show titled ‘Thoughtcrime.’ In the novel, Nineteen Eighty-Four
(1984), by George Orwell, Thoughtcrime describes any thought a
person might have that creates individuality. The Thought Police
would deem any thought illegal that did not agree with the Party’s
ideologies. “Who says bad thoughts don’t hurt anyone? In a world
where any thought can be used against you, no one is safe from the
			impulses of their own mind.”
The marching band started rehearsing Thoughtcrime in July with a
week of band camp. At camp the band members started learning the
music and field formations. They continue to practice on school days
from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. to perfect the program.

On the field, the marching band brings “the thriller
to life” with the movements Wired, Memory Hole, and Captive and
Conversion. The musical score was composed and arranged by Steve
Martin, Shawn Glyde and Dan Byran.

In most high school hosted competitions bands are
divided into groups according to the size of the band. In most
university hosted competitions bands are divided into groups
according to the size of the school. It is up to the hosting entity
to decide how to divide the bands for the competition.
On Saturday, LCHS Marching Band was in division 1A
based on the size of the band. Joining them in this division were
			bands:

				Rockford Public Schools performing ‘Luigi’s
				Ristorante.’

ROWVA High School performing ‘In Love & War.’

Dwight Township High School performing ‘Looking
				Grimm.’
