The WLB Lady Wolverines are
impressive on the basketball court to say the least. Both the
7th and 8th grade teams coached by Kari Froebe are off to 3-0
starts this season and they are simply schooling their opponents
on the court.
On
Monday night, the school celebrated the girls and raised the
2018 state championship banners in the gym just
before annihilating Decatur Hope Academy in the 8th grade game.
The
first quarter ended with WLB on top 34-2. At halftime the score
was 63-2. At the end of three quarters Decatur Hope Academy had
scored a couple more buckets and the margin was 82-8. The Lady
Wolverines coasted to a 90-8 win as the fourth quarter clock
ran. Kloe Froebe led the Lady Wolverines with 42 points. Becca
Heitzig hit double figures with 10 points.
WLB also won the 7th grade
game over Decatur Hope Academy easily. The final in that one
was 63-5. Mia Clark led the Lady Wolverines with 12 points.
Lily Holmes added 11 points and Piper Whiteman tossed in
10 points.
After the wins, WLB Coach
Kari Froebe said, "It was a special evening. Thank you to
all the fans that came out to support the girls and show
their appreciation for the success they've had over the last
three years."
Worth noting is the dynasty
being built on the west side of town. The Lady
Wolverines basketball program has five state championships
in three years and six state championships since 2014.
Dating back the last ten years, these girls have had six
state championships, a runner-up and a third place finish.
So eight of the last ten years has seen these girls bring
home some serious hardware along with countless undefeated
seasons.
