Lincoln College senior Mikalya Seibert has earned the Association of Independent Institutions (AII) Volleyball Player of the Week award after helping lead the Lady Lynx to a perfect 4-0 record last week.

The right side hitter from Mackinaw, Illinois, has been one of Lincoln's most reliable hitters all season long. Last week, she was a key contributor to LC’s victory over Principia College (NCAA) and in three wins claimed by the Lady Lynx at the A.I.I. Conference Crossover event.

Seibert recorded eight kills and a .316 hitting percentage in LC’s sweep of Principia and had 11 kills and a .500 hitting percentage in another 3-0 win over Haskell Indian Nations University (Kan.). The Dee-Mack High School grad then contributed 12 kills and six blocks to Lincoln’s four-set win against College of the Ozarks.

Currently, Seibert, who is on track to graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, leads the team with 163 kills on the season and a 2.6 kills per set average. In addition, she ranks second on the team with 38 blocks.

According to Seibert, this achievement was a team effort. “I am happy about getting this award, but a lot of the credit should go to my teammates,” said Seibert. “The passers do a great job and Morgan (Lolling) and I connect really well. She’s been my setter the past two seasons, so we are comfortable on the court together.”

Lincoln Head Coach Mark Tippett is pleased to see Seibert gaining recognition. “Mikayla has been outstanding this season,” said Tippett. “She’s a go-to hitter whenever we need a side out because she is not afraid to take the big swing when the pressure is on. She also did a nice job earlier this season when we needed her to play back row. Mikayla is a true team leader and deserving of this honor.”

Lincoln stands 12-6 on the season after winning all four matches last week.
