Lincoln College middle hitter Amazing Ashby (Aurora, CO) totaled a
team-high ten kills with a .533 hitting percentage and outside
hitter Ashlyn Slater (Grain Valley, MO) racked up nine service aces
to help the Lady Lynx overcome a strong effort from their crosstown
rivals and achieve another three-set victory. The win at Lincoln
Christian University was LC’s 13th of the season against just six
losses.
“We did not have our best night defensively,” said Lincoln Coach
Mark Tippett. “A lot of the credit for that goes to LCU because they
played hard on every point and really made us work for everything.
Fortunately, we were able to get the stops when we needed them to
avoid losing any sets, and Ashlyn’s serve was really on, which
helped change the momentum of the match a couple of times,” he
added.
Lincoln started the evening by building a four-to-five-point
advantage in set one which they maintained throughout the early
going, however, a four-point run by the Red Lions tied the score at
18-18. The two teams then battled back and forth from that point up
to a 25-25 tie before the Lady Lynx came through with back-to-back
kills from senior Kaylyn Hoffert (Lincoln) and junior Kayla Battle
(Aurora) to give LC a 27-25 win.
Set two started off with LCU grabbing the early momentum to go up
13-10, but when a Red Lion service error sent junior Ashlyn Slater
behind the service line, the direction of the match changed
considerably. Slater’s jump serve would deliver nine points in a
row, five of them aces, to put Lincoln up 20-13. LC went on to take
the set 25-16.

In set three, Slater picked up where she left off by serving three
aces in a row to stake the Lady Lynx to a 4-0 advantage. Lincoln
College did not trail the rest of the set on their way to a 25-21
win to close out the match.
Setters Emma Derry (Augusta) and Morgan Lolling (Lincoln) split the
set assists evenly with Derry totaling 15 and Lolling 14. Libero
Megan Gilliam shined once again by picking up 16 digs and handled 21
serve receptions without an error. Lincoln native Hannah Cameron was
two behind Ashby for the lead in total kills with eight while middle
hitter Kayla Battle (Aurora) had six kills and two blocked shots.
Lincoln will continue their series of road matches with a trip to
play at Lindenwood-Belleville University (NAIA) on Friday for a 7:00
PM match.
