Instead, we could try creating new memories and
maybe even some new traditions for Easter that we can incorporate
into future years when we back to our standards.
One of those new traditions that is sure to lift spirits could be
honoring the holiday with flowers.
For the record, flower shops can be open, and among those in the
community that are open is Debbie’s Downtown Floral in Lincoln.
Debbie Theobald, the owner of the shop says that business is down.
She sees very few visitors to her store and those who do come in are
there for specific reasons. No one is just coming in to shop or look
around.
She said at any given time there could be one customer in the store
or maybe even two but she doesn’t see any more than that. To assist
those who are being very conscious of the stay at home rule and the
social distancing rule, she is offering delivery, as always, and
also is taking orders to the door for customers to pick-up outside.
Instead of planning a big meal, buying new clothes for church or
making plans to visit family, this year, you can have a wonderful
Easter celebration at home with the people you share your space
with. Remember, nothing can actually cancel Easter because
regardless of where we are in this world, Christ the Risen Savior
dwells within our hearts and is in the spaces we occupy if we ask
him to be.
There are a number of churches locally that will be holding online
worship and there is always a selection of Easter programing on
television. So worship as you will and remember this year as the
year your observance was more intimate.
Don’t dump the idea of a nice meal, just prepare a smaller one and
enjoy that time around the table together as a family.
Add to the joy of the day by brightening that table
with a nice arrangement of flowers. Bright colorful spring blooms
bring out the happy in all of us regardless of what our situation
may be.
Debbie’s has those arrangements ready for purchase and pick-up or
delivery so that you can enjoy them with those you love.
There is also another option from Debbie’s that is gaining great
popularity. If you have children in the household, get them involved
in your holiday planning by allowing them to make that special
floral arrangement for the table.
Debbie’s is offering a Kid’s Kit that comes with a
floral container, floral foam and a selection of cut flowers and
greenery for the perfect arrangement. The kit comes with
instructions on how to arrange a bouquet. Debbie began selling the
kits a couple of weeks ago and said on Friday that so far she has
had about 20 orders.

The kids are enjoying putting the arrangements together, and several
have had their photos taken and posted on Debbie’s Facebook page for
everyone to enjoy.
In addition to making home a special place for Easter, Debbie said
that flowers are still allowed at senior living facilitates, nursing
homes and hospitals (normal restrictions apply there). With the
restrictions on visiting such places, Debbie said that sending
flowers is a wonderful way to remind those who are unable to receive
visitors that they are loved and in your thoughts and prayers.
Debbie noted that with the stay at home rules in place, there is an
absence of funerals right now. She said since the first rules of
social distancing were announced, the number of indoor funerals have
dropped to none. There have been a very few graveside services held
for family members only and some of those have ordered flowers. So,
that part of her business has taken a significant hit.
However, she added that some folks are ordering
floral arrangements and planters to be delivered to the homes of
loved ones of the deceased. She has been selling some special
memorial bouquets that include a nice candle that can be kept after
the flowers of wilted.
Like many other small businesses around the area, Debbie is working
to keep things going. She’s coming up with new ideas of ways she can
promote her shop and “drum up business,” and she would be happy to
have more. Everyone is looking forward to this time of shelter in
place to be over. Several have said that the first thing they will
do when it is over is go shopping. When that happens, don’t forget
to visit all the small businesses in our community. They need you
and want you and right now they are all missing you very much. They
will all be happy to see you coming back in their shops, including
Debbie at Debbie’s Downtown Floral.
