Realizing that
children were experiencing fear from being quarantined at home,
Karrie Funk, assistant preschool teacher at Lincoln Christian
Church, along with her daughter, Abby, decided a visit from a Disney
princess might calm some of those fears. They didn’t want people to
remember the fear of covid-19 but, instead, to remember the joy of
experiencing something special together.
Abby played the role of Belle in the live production of Beauty and
the Beast in March 2019 at Lincoln Christian University. Donning her
costume, Abby, with her mom as chauffeur, set out to put a smile on
people’s faces. The ladies went all over town stopping to entertain
children and their parents with songs from the Disney musical.
Princess Belle practiced social distancing by singing from the
street while families watched from their porches.
The response was overwhelmingly positive. Many are now requesting
Princess Belle for birthday parties and other celebrations. Keep
your eyes and ears open. Who knows? Before long, we might be seeing
Cinderella, Elsa, or Anna singing around town.
