Staff volunteers at
Washington Monroe School in Lincoln prepare to hand out lunches to
qualifying children in the District 27 Elementary School District.
The food distribution is part of the USDA free breakfast and lunch
program and is meant to make up for the absence of free breakfast
and lunch during regular school attendance.
According to Superintendent Kent Froebe, the district is
distributing about 600 lunches and breakfasts daily Monday through
Friday. Parents may come to the schools and pick up meals, or they
may be delivered if needed.
Lunches are being distributed from Central, Northwest and
Washington-Monroe Schools between 11:30 a.m. and 12 noon each day.
