[April 17, 2020]  Parents & Guardians,

We hope you are staying safe and healthy during this unprecedented time.

Dr. Carmen Ayala, State Superintendent of Education, declared Remote/E-Learning Days will begin on March 31, 2020 ending Act of God Days currently being utilized due to Governor Pritzker’s mandatory closure of schools in Illinois. We are now moving forward with the newly defined Remote Learning Days. WLB will continue to call these days Alternative Learning Days (ALD) as we have instituted the use of this type of learning in the past. However, ALD will look different in terms of time, grading, expectations, etc. Please see the Alternative Learning Day update sheet attached.

Recommended guidelines and recommendations from the Illinois State Board of Education will be followed by WLB. A mixture of packet/online learning will take place for all students for the upcoming week (March 31-April 3rd). Teachers will (or have) sent out learning opportunities via e-mail, Google Classroom and/or other communication type for the remainder of next week instead of distributing a second packet for four days. Spring Break is still scheduled for April 6th – April 10th and will go on as scheduled (meaning no ALD during this week).

It is unclear at this point if we will return to school on April 13th. We are preparing for the possibility of an extended closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic around the nation and in our state. A second packet (IF needed) will be distributed via bus routes on April 9th and 10th using a porch/mailbox drop off. This is a tentative date as we do not know what the future holds.

Meals will continue to be offered (during spring break) during the closure. There will be one change to meal distribution during the week April 6th- April 10th. Meals will be distributed on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of that week only. However, there will be two meals delivered on Monday and Wednesday for the days we are not distributing.

Please know that WLB will continue to provide the highest quality of education we can provide under the circumstances. Updates will be given as I receive them via e-mail and/or School Reach message.

Please contact me if you or your family needs anything!! I cannot stress this enough! I will do my best to help your family. We are all in this together!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Heather D. Baker
