At 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 2nd, the Lincoln Rural Fire Prtection
District first responders were dispatched to a local grain elevator
for a report of a male who had his leg stuck in a grain auger.
Due to the potential severity of the call, a request was made for
Life Flight to respond.
Upon arrival the patient was found to be inside the grain bin with
his leg stuck in the auger in the bottom of the bin.
LRFPD and Logan County Paramedics immediately began rendering
medical aid once the bin was safely secured to do so. Lincoln City
Fire was requested to the scene for technical rescue assistance due
to the confined space and extra equipment that would be required.
Hartsburg Grain was contacted and responded with two personnel along
with a vacuum trailer to remove the corn if needed.

A joint effort was made with all the first responders on scene and employees of
the elevator to disassemble the parts of the bin and eventually remove the
patient and get him loaded in the Life Flight helicopter.
This turned into a very complex rescue with a lot of personnel needed to provide
the best outcome.
Lincoln Rural would like to extend its gratitude to all the assistance on-scene.
Agencies involved included Logan Dispatch, Lincoln Rural & Lincoln City Fire,
Logan County Paramedics, Logan County Sheriffs Department, Lincoln Police, Life
Flight, Hartsburg Grain, and the employees of the elevator.
Such a complex rescue could not have been done without everyone working
together.
