Lincoln Daily News
welcomes letters of appreciation, information and
opinion on matters pertaining to the community.
Controversial issues:
As a
community we need to be able to talk openly about
matters that affect the quality of our lives. The
most effective and least offensive manner to get
your point across is to stick to the issue
and refrain from commenting on another person's
opinion. Letters that deviate from focusing on the
issue may be rejected or edited and marked as such.

To the editor: This letter is
directed to all those who think involvement in civic life is a waste
of time because nothing ever changes. The election of Donald Trump
should now put that assumption to rest because after the reality TV
star entered the White House everything changed, and for the worse.
We learned that real leadership is about uniting people—not dividing
them. We need a president who can unite us and get us moving forward
again.
We can achieve our goals if we don’t keep getting rolled by crises.
We should be in charge of our lives—not insurance company
bureaucrats or politicians who think everything is about them and
not about us. If leaders give us the tools we need, tools like
health care that’s fair and accessible, and then get out of our way
we can get ahead.
We need to protect the basics that we have earned—like Social
Security, Medicare, and Medicaid—and build on them, so they’ll be
there when we need them. We contributed to them and we deserve to be
able to count on them.
We want to know if we’re sick we won’t lose everything. People need
to know that they are not one accident or illness away from
bankruptcy.

Folks shouldn’t have to worry that getting sick will
derail plans for their children and their future. We have to have
leaders who will protect you if you have a pre-existing condition.
That's a good reason to vote.
If you haven't voted lately, I encourage you to visit
the County Clerk's office on the south end of the second floor of
the Logan County Courthouse. Bring along your driver's license,
state ID, passport or FOID card and a bank statement containing your
current address or a utility bill and envelope that you've received
at your current address.
Once you vote, things get easier. Our county clerk will routinely
send you in the mail each year an application for a ballot that you
can use to VOTE BY MAIL! We can thank Gov. Pritzker and the Illinois
General Assembly for that.
Happy voting on Nov. 3. Make America normal again!
Sincerely,
Gary Davis
