Summertime
sidewalk replacement projects are winding down in the city of
Lincoln. Last week this crew from Knapp Construction was working in
the area of the Washington-Monroe School.
Before pouring the concrete for a portion of the project, it is tested for
stability and to make sure it is good quality. To do this, a crew
member collects a bucket of concrete. He pokes it to make sure there
are no air pockets, then smoothes it with a trowel to see if it
comes to a nice even finish. Finally, a special lid is placed on the
bucket, and a gauge is used to test the air content. When the
concrete passed the test, crews then began pouring the new sidewalk.
