Rukayatu Ibrahim, MD, found a love of pediatric medicine during
medical school. “Even the sickest kids, you just felt for them and
you wanted to do your best for them,” she says. “I just loved the
interaction with the families and kids, helping them make the right
choices. The rapport you can build with a child, there is nothing
like it.” Dr. Ibrahim completed her medical degree at the Kwame
Nkrumah University of Science & Technology School of Medicine
Sciences in Kumasi, Ghana, followed by her pediatrics residency at
the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University Cooper University
Hospital in Camden, N.J.
Board certified in pediatrics, Dr. Ibrahim specializes in newborn
care and helping families through the first few stages of their new
baby’s life. She can perform school and sports physicals, treat ear
infections, sinusitis, allergies, asthma, rashes and eczema in
children and teenagers and has a special interest in early childhood
development, obesity management, ADHD, anxiety and depression. “I
like helping children and adolescents make choices that will help
them later in life,” she says. “Like, ‘What can we do now to help
prevent problems later?’”
When she’s not working, Dr. Ibrahim likes to spend time with her
family, especially outdoors walking or going to parks. She’s excited
to be in Springfield and to get involved with the community outside
of the office.
