If the Miami
Dolphins are going to qualify for the playoffs for the first
time since 2016, they might have to overcome injuries to a
couple of their best playmakers.
As of Monday afternoon Dolphins, head coach Brian Flores was
still awaiting updates on tight end Mike Gesicki (shoulder) and
receiver/returner Jakeem Grant (leg), who each left Sunday's
home loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
But the Miami Herald reported there is a "good chance" both
players could miss the Dolphins' next game against the New
England Patriots. The paper also reported Gesicki was scheduled
for a MRI on Monday.
"I think it's too early to tell," Flores replied to a question
about Gesicki on Monday. "We're still going through the
evaluation process with our medical staff. ... I'm not even
going to go into how he felt this morning. It's too early to
tell with Mike, as well as some other guys that got banged up
yesterday."
Gesicki's absence would leave a big offensive hole for the
Dolphins (8-5), who rank in the bottom half of the NFL in
touchdowns. He's the team leader in receiving touchdowns (six)
and is second in receptions (44) and receiving yards (602).
Grant has 28 punt returns for 323 yards and one touchdown this
season, in addition to six kick returns for 129 yards, and 31
catches for 330 yards and one touchdown.
The Herald also reported that a third injured player that left
the Kansas City game, receiver DeVante Parker, sustained a leg
injury that isn't believed to be serious and "there's a chance
he will be available" against New England.
